Former Locus of Respectable Employment for Renee; Nick mostly grew up in corners there and out back where they kept the cardboard boxes. The Mimosa was (and, to a lesser extent, still is) a health food restaurant, featuring the most appalling whole wheat croissants…but also some less healthy, more amusing foods, like Mickey’s macaroni and cheese (an excellent example of the type), good brunch waffles, and a fairly impressive zucchini melt.
The Mimosa also has an interesting place in Nick’s cultural literacy; one of the employees there idly gave him a box of books including his first Zelazny and Bloom County, and another employee was Robin Sturgeon, son of Theodore Sturgeon—who delayed Nick’s introduction to the latter by several years, advising Renee that it wasn’t kid-friendly.
