ED(Eternal Darkness) is a heavily Lovecraftian video game for the GameCube, marketed, I am told, as one of the few non-kid-like games for that relativley tame platform. It’s set in Rhode Island, which is delightful, and possesses some genuinely desirable game qualities, such as the refreshing multi-character storyline (which is good for authentically killing off most of the heros while still moving the game ahead) and excellent atmospherics. The quasi-freeform spell creation system, while an excellent idea, has not nearly enough runes to make it really interesting. And while the game has its puzzling moments, it’s never really hard unless you have trouble grasping the mechanics of ED combat.
The game also has its moments of intense retardation, like the name Roivas (savioR) for its first family.
