Red Harvest Movie Cycle
- Dashiell Hammet wrote the novel(la?) Red Harvest, set in the prohibition-era midwest, about an anti-social tough buy (the Continental Op) who goes into a heavily corrupt small town run by competing gangs and plays the various factions against each other to rid the town of its criminal element.
- Akira Kurosawa made Red Harvest into Yojimbo, a samurai version of Red Harvest
- Sergio Leone made A Fistful of Dollars, a western version of Yojimbo
- Walter Hill made Last Man Standing, a prohibition-era southwest version of A Fistful of Dollars
